Hey, Iβm Hannah! Iβm a visual journalist and cartographer in Washington, D.C. Thank you for spending some time to ChitChart with me! π
Print of a Dormidots map of Washington D.C.
Iβve been sharingΒ ChitChart as a social seriesΒ for a while, but Iβve always wanted it to have a home, and I kept putting it off. But getting laid off from a job I loved was a wake-up call that Iβve been putting off other things that brought me joy. So, this is that space. Thank you for being here!
Itβs also a chance to expand what ChitChart can be: a space to explore visual storytelling in all its forms.
Not just quick social media reels, but deeper dives, more thoughtful breakdowns, and more room to explore creative work. That could include charts, maps, diagrams, and physical items like candles, jewelry, and other creative projects.
Some weeks, Iβll break down a chart or visual that made me think differently. Other times, Iβll get into the process of making something by hand. I also love highlighting fellow visual storytellers and learning about their stories, which I will share with you here.
This is what inspires me: if something helps us see differently or understand the world a little more clearly, itβs worth exploring. If someone is trying new projects or improving on how weβve always done things, letβs discuss and support them.
Iβll also share things I come across. May it be interesting visuals, thoughtful design, and people doing creative work. If I have ideas for improving a visual piece, I would love to share them constructively. We are here to learn, after all!
Sometimes Iβll geek out over the details of how something is made, let you in on my failed or ongoing projects, or share little snippets from my personal notes. Like this page, scanned directly from my notebook, which weβll call ChitChart Cards from now on. (Letβs just hope you can read my handwriting, and please be kind about spelling errors. I usually write these down at crazy, odd hours. π)

My hope is that you find something here that either teaches you something new or nudges you to create something of your own.
Thanks for being here at the start.
ChitChart more soon,
Hannah
